Task categories/list syncing with Astrid
 

Hello,

I have recently got an Android phone, and have successfully managed to sync it with Memotoo calendar, contacts, and tasks. The only issue I've had is that all my tasks lose their categories when they come into Astrid. Astrid has 'lists'. Is this the default, and if so are there any plans to allow this sort of syncing to happen.

The Synthesis client for Android is not supporting categories for tasks at all in the current release.

They will be supported for the internal tasks manager for the next release.
We are checking if they can be supported for the Astrid interface as well.

The new version V2.2.20 of the Synthesis app has been released today.
It syncs Astrid task lists now as categories, as requested and expected.

...except I can't get it to work. I'm using Astrid 4.0.6.2, and SyncML Pro 2.2.20 from Google Play and Memotoo. So far I've tried disabling and re-enabling Astrid in Syncml Settings, and 'reloading device' for sync type. All tasks are synced, but Memotoo categories are lost, and everything appears as Not in Any List in Astrid.

I've set up lists in Astrid with the same names as the Categories in Memotoo.

I'm wondering if I have to reinstall either Astrid or Syncml or both?

My phone is an HTC Desire Z running Android 2.3.3.

We've tested it with V2.2.21 and the same Astrid version and also with Memotoo. It's fully working in both directions.
We've tested it with several Android versions.

Completed tasks might not have the list attributes at Astrid.

A re-installation of Astrid and/or a reboot might help.

Reinstalling Astrid did not work. Neither did reinstalling syncML.

I then tried using the built in task manager, rather than Astrid. First time it did a slow sync. All my memotoo tasks appeared, but the groups/categories did not come over. It suggests to me that I'm missing a setting somewhere, but I don't know where.

Can you add a new task with categories each on Astrid and on Memotoo,
then sync with logs (long click on the sync button, 2nd choice) ?

Keep me informed about your sync time by email.
Then we will see what's happening.

Thanks. I've sent you an email detailing what I've done, and the resultant log file was sent by e-mail from SyncML

According to our private email conversation the problem is solved when using "tasks" as server path (instead of "task", as proposed on the Memotoo page).

We will contact Memotoo for clarification

I have a same problem.

Category transferred to the Astrid and displayed there, but they can not be used (ie, sort it), and if you add the same category in the Astrid they are added to the same. And displayed as <Category> | <Category>. In the opposite direction (from Astrid to evolution) all transmitted as necessary.

As far as I know, there is no further development on Astrid.
Is the same problem at Alex Baker's tasks ?

Alex Baker's tasks shows me inactive in task sync properties.

The lists = categories are implemented at the Synthesis client, so they should work.

Incative means that Alex Baker's tasks shows in tasks sync properties, but I cannot switch it on. In any case, I now used Informant. It works well with categories.
